The Shining
My brother is a big Stephen King fan and for years he would always suggest his books for me to read. I finally did it, and boy oh boy is this book scary.
Joey was right to keep it in the freezer.
This was not only the first Stephen King book I read but also the first horror novel so I was in for a big ride.
The book follows Jack, Wendy and their son Danny. We meet them before they even set foot on the famous hotel and we get a glimpse of their dysfunctional family life. This serves as great context for the rest of the action.
At the hotel, the (in)famous Overlook, the action really kicks into gear and you basically can’t put the book down. The Overlook presents itself as this constant dark presence trying to pull the family apart.
I really liked it and I’will for sure read more of the genre, maybe the sequel. 🤔
